13 Things about Keisha Castle-Hughes

For Keisha Castle-Hughes' Birthday today. There may be some of you out there who may not know a few things or so about Keisha. So if you one of those cult following fans of Keisha here are facts about her to help you along your hidden obsession!!

13. 13 ISN'T SO UNLUCKY
Keisha Castle-Hughes at the time was the youngest person nominated in the Best Actress category. She received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress for her performance in the Whale Rider as a 13-year-old.
12. BEFORE FAME
Keisha Castle-Hughes was born in Donnybrook, Western Australia but moved to New Zealand with her family when she was 18 months old.

11. DISCOVERING THE WHALE RIDER
She was a fortunate discovery for "Whale Rider". The casting director and casting assistant went to her primary school in Mt Wellington, New Zealand and went through a few hundred children to choose their Paikea. They found her, only because she was playing up and being smart to them: she stood out. (Keisha was Discovered by the same agent who discovered Anna Paquin.)
10. A BIG FAN DREAM
Keisha Castle-Hughes in 2004 was a big fan of Johnny Depp and was able to meet him at the 76th Academy Awards when they were both nominees that year.
9. PRACTICED TALENTS
Keisha Castle-Hughes has been learning Maori dances since she was 6? Which she still practices to this day.
8. VALENTINES DAY 2013
After six weeks together, Keisha Castle-Hughes became engaged in August 2012. Keisha then got married to Jonathan Morrison on Valentine's Day 2013.
7. GUEST STAR
Did you know? Keisha Castle-Hughes was a guest-star on Legend of the Seeker as the Creator. Legend of the Seeker was a great short lived American weekly series.
6. KEISHA CASTLE-HUGHES ACTIVIST
Well in 2009 she along with other activist and actors for the campaigned for Greenpeace which is part of the SignOn.org.nz climate campaign.

New Zealand Prime Minister John Key initially admonished her to "stick to acting", but offered a week later to discuss the issues with her over tea after she maintained she knew more about them than he gave her credit for.
5. NUDE DEBUT
Keisha Castle Hughes back in 2009 doing her nude debut in A Heavenly Vintage aka The Vintner's Luck. Which is her 1st and only so far on screen nudity.
4. NEW ZEALAND

Keisha Castle-Hughes attained New Zealand citizenship in 2001. Since she was 18 months old when her family moved to New Zealand in 1991.
3. PRINCE
 Broadcast Film Critics Association Awards nominated Keisha for Best Actress, which she won in 2004. She soon followed the role by appearing in Prince's controversial music video for his song "Cinnamon Girl" that showed she wasn't going to fade out of the light yet.
2. TIME TO PLAY THE GAME
In the past season 5 of Game of Thrones, Keisha is played the part of Obara Sand. A part she knew she could fit as being a big fan. Keisha was a reader of the A Song of Ice and Fire novels long before it was announced that HBO was going to adapt them into a G.O.T. TV series. So when the TV adaptation started to air on HBO she watched it avidly, but when Oberyn Martell was introduced in Season 4, she started to wonder if she could obtain a role in the show.
1. KEISHA'S SMALL WORLD
What you may not have known is Keisha Castle-Hughes shares the role of Mary, Jesus' mother, with Pernilla August. She and August have also both appeared in the Star Wars prequels.

Also Keisha and her former co-star Oscar Isaac have an interesting thing in common. They both of course starred in The Nativity Story and now both have been a part of the Star Wars saga!
